Deep Cleaning (Scaling & Root Planing)

Scaling and root planing removes bacterial biofilm and tartar below the gumline and smooths root surfaces to reduce pocket depth and make it harder for bacteria to reattach. Treatment is typically completed in two visits (one side of the mouth at a time), with topical and local anesthesia for comfort. Dr. Eck may pair therapy with localized antimicrobials, home-care coaching, and a 3–4 month maintenance interval to keep inflammation under control.

Minimally Invasive Gum Grafting

When recession exposes root surfaces or thins protective gum tissue, connective-tissue grafting restores coverage, improves comfort, and enhances aesthetics. Dr. Eck uses minimally invasive approaches to reduce postoperative discomfort and promote faster healing and more natural contours.

Gum Flap Surgery

For advanced disease, flap surgery allows precise access to deep periodontal pockets. Diseased tissue is removed, root surfaces are detoxified, and the area is sutured to reduce pocketing. When indicated, Dr. Eck combines this with regenerative techniques--such as bone or tissue grafting and biologic modifiers--to rebuild lost support.

Gummy Smile Corrections

If excess gum shows when you smile, procedures such as gingivectomy or crown lengthening can reveal more natural tooth structure and create a balanced, confident smile. Care is planned with attention to tooth proportions and your lip line for a refined result.

Frenectomy

Tight lip or tongue frena can affect feeding, speech, oral hygiene, and spacing. Dr. Eck performs precise releases to improve mobility and comfort. A frenum is the tendon that attached the tongue or lip to the bone, causing what is commonly called “tongue-tie”.

LANAP

LANAP is an alternative to traditional surgical treatments like gum flap surgery. Dr. Strahler will remove infected tissue and bacteria using a special laser tool. This tool also helps speed up the healing of your gum tissue. LANAP has minimal downtime and is virtually painless, making it a great alternative to traditional periodontal treatments.

FAQ

Can gum disease be reversed?

Gingivitis--the earliest stage--can often be fully reversed once plaque and tartar are removed and home care improves. Periodontitis cannot be “cured,” but it can be controlled. With scaling and root planing, possible adjunctive therapies, and a consistent maintenance schedule, inflammation is reduced, pockets can shrink, and teeth can often be kept for the long term. The sooner Dr. Eck begins treatment, the better the chance of reversing early changes and stabilizing more advanced disease.
